Terrica Glenn

My Name is Terrica Glen.

I work at the Harlem Best Market. I’m a store Bookkeeper and I am tasked with accounting for all of the stores sales on the days that I work.  I enjoy working with the cashiers to make sure the store runs smoothly.

I have a lot of responsibility, but my pay is low. There is no way that I can afford to pay for Best Market’s health care plan for me and my kids. I’m a single mother and it caused me heartache to not be able to take my children to the doctor when they were sick.  I had to turn to Medicaid to insure my children.

I don’t have insurance for myself.  I just can’t afford it. I recently got pneumonia.  I showed up to work anyway because I couldn’t afford to take the day off.  I got so sick at the store that a coworker called an ambulance for me.  The bill for the ambulance and hospital was for thousands of dollars. I am now in debt to the hospital.

I’m a single mother and it caused me heartache to not be able to take my children to the doctor when they were sick.

I work hard for Best Market.  Best Market should provide livable wages and benefits that we can afford. It’s not right that I’m a full time employee but I have to turn to Medicaid for my children.  So many other supermarkets in our area provide affordable health care.  It’s not fair for me, for my family, and for our community.
